Parents Handbook

For  Parents
·       Ensure that your child carries books as per the time table.
·       Ensure that the child does not carry any valuables to school.
·       Ensure that your child comes to school in a clean and ironed uniform.
·       Do not send your child to school in case he is unwell.
·       If the child has a medical condition, kindly inform the teacher about the details of medication, etc.
·       Check your child’s school diary every day.
·       Incase your child is absent; write a leave note in the diary.
·       Applications for the required permissions are necessary. Send medical certificate along with leave note in case of long absence.
·       Use the diary to communicate with teachers.
·       Use the diary to seek appointment with teachers or principal.
·       Inculcate regular study habit in your child, it helps to have a fixed place and time of study.
·       Ensure that  your child revises the work done in school, daily.
·       The entire week’s work should be revised on weekends.

·       Help form healthy eating habits by packing healthy snacks/lunch for your child.
·       Send a spoon, table mat and a napkin along with the snack/lunch.
·       Ensure that your child sleeps early in the night, ( 8 hours of sleep) wakes up early and does not need to be rushed through bath and breakfast (breakfast is the most important meal of the day).
·       Limit television viewing.
·       Project work: help your child procure all required resources, guide your child but do not do the project for him/her, the process is as/more important than the final product.
·       100% participants in the activities and competition are certain. Encourage your child to participate in school activities.
·       The school has the students council with Head Boy and Head Girl and House captains. The four houses are Ventus, Ignis, Aqua and Terra. This is to groom the leadership skills in the child.
·       Ensure that your child  don’t  apply mehndi.
·       Please label all the clothing of your child with thread and needle.

Birthdays Protocols
1.  Please note : Students will wear color dress on their birthdays.
2.  Chocolate distribution will be allowed for the whole school or teachers. The students can distribute the chocolates for the class mates.
3.   Gifts distribution not allowed. However, you may donate reading book to school library.
4.  Personal invitation for the birthdays and the request to the school for the same will not be entertained.
INSTRUCTIONS FOR LABELING THE NOTE BOOKS
1)  Please do not cover the text books and notebooks.
2)   Please write the details with the help of Black CD marker pen.
3)  The first page of the notebook should carry the Index, with the following columns.
4)  Do not cover & label textbooks or notebooks.
5)  Parents please avoid Fancy Pencil box & water bottle.  They are distracters in learning. Please make sure that the size of the water bottle and pencil box is such that it fits in the compartments of the school bag.
6)  A child’s pencil box should have,  Pencils, Scale ½ feet , erasers ,sharpeners, Glue Stick , a pair of scissors, At least two sharpened  pencils should be sent.
7)  School will supply a diary , students  I-card and Hobby and Sports I card.

   Classroom expectations and ethics of Students at PIS Baroda
1.Bags on the side of the desk.
2. O noise and silence.
3. Healthy, clean and good smelling classroom..
4. Walk in a line.
5. Walk left always.
6. Hands at the back.
7. Talk in English.
8. No paper tearing .
9. No writing in rough notebook. (There is no rough note book culture in the school.)
10. Tie your shoe laces in a bow form.
11. Do not drag your feet and walk.
12. Right Eating Habits.
Very Important

1.    If notebooks provided by the school gets over you can use the previous year blank note book of the same type. If it is not available please buy from outside.
2.    School Diary to be brought daily to the class.
BEAN STALK OLYMPIAD
Podar Innovation Centre (Earlier known as CRDC) is very pleased to announce the launch of the in house ‘Beanstalk Math Olympiad’ & ‘Beanstalk Science Olympiad’ in all our schools .Kits first round will be conducted from 29nd July to 13th August 2017  and second round will be  conducted from 20th November to 1st December 2017. We hope to see many more programs like this in future.
PIS Baroda strongly advocates the PARTICIPATION OF THE STUDENTS in such competitions.
Podar Enrichment Academy
Podar Enrichment Academy runs Hobby and sports classes for the students wherein students are exposed to one hobby and one sports hour each, every week out of the allotted one .This is a great way of students discovering and competing in their chosen talent area.

Academic program/ Curriculum
1)  We give Home work that is scheduled and limited. The type of Home work,3 subjects per day, that is given involves Project work, collection of material, clicking of photographs , pasting of photographs/ pictures , memorizing  of various basic things that are always guided etc.
2)  Parents are advised against tuitions.

Types of Subjects
1.                 English is the first language of the school and Hindi is the second language.
2.                English, Hindi, Math, Environmental science, Science, Social science, Sanskrit and Gujarati are some of the regular subjects taught.
3.                Symphonic is the sound based English language teaching of speaking, reading and writing of the language. It is taught up to Std 1-
4.                Integrated English which incorporates various creative theme and General knowledge, it does not have a text book, it is taught internally and examined so.

5.                Reading period is held every Friday. You have to send one reading book per term with your child so that children can read the story and appear for reading club exam , which is held at the end of every term.


Assessments and Evaluation      
 Classes 1 and 2
There is no FA and SA FOR STD I and II.(ONLY FOR SEMESTER -1) The content taught in each subject will be taken as “ Revision Worksheet”( test) at the end of the month  and it is graded. There are four such revision worksheets in each term .


For  Term II Grade 2
1.  Grade 2 will have two Cycle Tests of 40 marks each. Each cycle test will club the portion of two revision work sheets.
2.  Each Cycle Test will have 3 or 4 topics.
3.  Please note that the difficulty level of the Cycle Tests will be comparable to the current Revision Worksheets.
4.  We are only encouraging the students to be able to deal with more quantity of work in a fixed time schedule.
5.  This will surely prepare them for Cycles Tests in Grade 3.
                                            Grade 3 to 5
               Grade 3 to 5 there will be 4 cycle test. Each term will have  2 cycle test.
Cycle test 1 and 3 will be of 40 marks and cycle test 2 and 4 will be of 60 marks.

How to write exams
1.  Questions will be asked besides the exercises and from the text also.
2.  Give enough sharpened pencils and writing pens to  your ward
3.  Children those who wrote with pen should use only blue pen
4.  Please insist on legible handwriting
5.  Help your wards to memorize spellings
6.  Speed and focus will help your ward to finish the exam of 80 marks in 3 hours.
7.  Please Note: There might be a change in the pattern of examination  as per guidelines awaited from the government. If so then the change will be effective in our school as well and parents will be duly intimated about it.       
Communication with parents/ Intimations:
1.  Through circulars.
2.  Through diary.
3.  On between us portal ( Demo of between us Portal will be given by Computer teacher)
All Parents are requested to have email id , which will help them to communicate with us through school official portal called “Between us”. Parents will receive and send messages of the school through this portal.

              between us portal is also available as app for android phone
The highlight of the app is parents would get instant access to data, notifications on Android Phone. Take note that it works only for Parents currently and supports only Android.
Appointment
      Meeting with the teachers: With Prior Appointment on any day (2:15                   p.m. to 3:00 p.m.) and on Saturdays (12.45 p.m.to 1.15 p.m.)

Environmental Advisory
Podar schools have been a part of many social awareness campaign.  Save water “ was one such campaign.  Going one step further ,we urge parents to adopt environment friendly approach. Please
1)  Do not send anything in polythene bags. Use cotton or jute bags
2)  You can gift school a plant on your child birthday. We will name the plant after your child’s name.
